Freeca was created in 2024 to celebrate the beauty of African waves and the surfers who ride them. More than just a surfboard brand, Freeca is a movement dedicated to crafting high-quality boards, promoting African surfers, and building a united community inspired by the freedom of riding waves.
About Us
Freeca started with a dream: to empower local surfers and showcase the stunning waves of Senegal to the world. Surfing is more than a sport here, it’s a lifestyle that connects people to the rhythm of the ocean and to each other. Based in Senegal, Freeca is the first surfboard manufacturing facility in the country equipped with a CNC machine. The designs and production of boards are entirely imagined, crafted, and completely made locally with passion.

Meet our shaper
At the heart of Freeca is Nael Derwiche, the founder and shaper whose passion for surfing and the ocean shapes every board with purpose. Born and raised in Senegal, Nael’s connection to the ocean became his source of inspiration.
Founder, shaper, surfer
Freeca was born from Nael Derwiche’s dream to celebrate African surf culture: a sport of pure talent, rich heritage, and the singular waves that sculpt the continent’s shores. His goal : to craft boards that serve and represent the community he holds close to his heart.
For Nael, shaping is storytelling. Each board is made with care and intention — not just as a tool for riding waves, but as a symbol of freedom, resilience, and the deep bond between surfer and sea.
He sees his craft as a responsibility : to support the growth of surfing in Senegal and across Africa, and to inspire the next generation to dream bigger. Every board carries hope, and through Freeca, Nael shares the vibrant soul of African surfing with the world — reminding us all that the ocean is not just a playground, but a place where dreams become real.
Meet our glasser
Thierno Samb embodies the heart of Senegalese surf culture. Raised on the shores of Senegal, he developed an early and lasting bond with the ocean, finding freedom in its rhythm and strength in its challenges. As both a national competitor and dedicated surf instructor, Thierno has inspired a new generation to connect with the sea.
Today, as Freeca’s glasser, he brings that same passion into every board he sands and glasses. For Thierno, shaping isn’t just a job — it’s a way to honor a legacy, tell a story, and celebrate the vibrant energy of African surfing. Through his hands, each board becomes a symbol of resilience, creativity, and a future built on dedication and belief.
